DMCI Holdings adopted a climate change policy that will enable our subsidiary and affiliate companies to make meaningful contributions towards addressing the reality of climate change.

Semirara Mining and Power Corporation protects over 300 hectares of naturally grown mangroves in Semirara Island. In 2017, the company also planted mangroves in over 196 hectares of coastal area for carbon sequestration
and island protection.

Sem-Calaca Power Corporation planted over 2,700 seedlings in Brgys. Dacanlao and Baclaran to increase the greenhouse gas sequestration capacity in the areas.

Maynilad keeps a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) and Air Pollutants inventory that monitors and reports its emissions. Through this system, the company quantifies and validates carbon emissions from its operations, while monitoring the effectiveness of its environmental programs.

In 2011, Maynilad became the first company in the Philippines to receive the ISO 14064:2006 certification for the verification of its GHG or carbon footprint quantification and reporting initiative from TUV Rheinland.

Semirara Mining and Power Corporation (SMPC) has a reforestation program that involves the planting of endemic, ornamental and fruit bearing trees in areas directly or indirectly affected by its operations.

In 2017, the company planted 236,500 trees, bringing its total reforested area to 749.83 hectares. Survival rate of the planted trees stands at 83 percent.

SMPC conducts progressive rehabilitation, regeneration, re-vegetation and reforestation of mineralized areas, stabilization of mined out areas, waste dumps and tailing covered areas, among others.

Nearly 209,700 trees were planted during the year, roughly equivalent to 84 hectares of land. Survival rate of the planted trees is pegged at 87 percent.

The Maynilad Plant for Life program aims to rehabilitate, reforest and protect watersheds and critical areas in (Norzagaray) Bulacan, Muntinlupa City and Cavite province. In 2017, the company planted 130,000 trees, which is roughly equivalent to 72 hectares.

Zambales Diversified Metals Corporation (ZDMC) maintains a nursery to support its rehabilitation and reforestation activities. The company has produced 112,509 seedlings composed of nine types of forest trees and three types of fruit bearing trees.

In 2017, ZDMC planted 39,000 trees in nearly 26 hectares of progressive rehabilitation areas. Together with 120 residents, it also planted 10,000 mangrove propagules in over four hectares of land in Brgy. Sabang in Sta. Cruz, Zambales in support of the Philippine Environment Month.

Berong Nickel Corporation protects and conserves the remaining mangroves and denuded coastal areas in Brgys. Isugod and Aramaywan in Quezon, Palawan. During the year, the company planted 120,000 trees in over 12 hectares of land.
