Zero Hunger


Zambales Diversified Metals Corporation provided fourteen sacks of fertilizers to 200 rice farmers in Brgys. Malimanga and Yamot in Sta. Cruz, Zambales, to help increase their yield. The company also provided two (2) units of tractors (kuliglig) to Brgy. Uacon to assist the 294 farmers in the host community.

Maynilad and the Parañaque City Government inaugurated eight FAITH (Food Always In The Home) Gardens in eight daycare centers in the area. To help families grow their own food, they also conducted a series of workshops on practical urban gardening techniques. 250 residents attended the workshops. FAITH Gardens is a home food security program that aims to provide marginalized groups in Parañaque with a steady source of fresh vegetables. Under the partnership, Maynilad also installed 260-gallon overhead water tanks and drip irrigation systems to help sustain the community gardens.

Berong Nickel Corporation (BNC) supported community-based agro-forestry, banana plantation and seaweed farming projects in Brgys. Berong and Aramaywan in Quezon, Palawan to provide the local farmers with sustainable livelihood options even after
the operating life of the mine.

Free seedlings and technical assistance were given to the host communities, allowing 117 local farmers to plant 26,175 rubber trees and banana seedlings. Nearly a hundred farmers (97) also planted 3,518 kilos of seaweed seedlings.

BNC held livelihood trainings and capacity building seminars for 97 farmers and fisherfolks in Brgys. Berong and Aramaywan so they could develop by-products from their crops. The trainings and seminars focused on fish and seaweeds processing technology.  The company also distributed new fishing equipment to 45 local fishermen to help increase their yield.
